Last weekend, JJ, Vivienne and I had the pleasure of “staycationing” at the new Mountain Shadows resort, located right here in Scottsdale, AZ. Originally built in the late 1950s, it was a common hot spot among celebrity travelers and known as one of the most premier resorts in the entire Southwest. This past year, the building was torn down and completely rebuilt; keeping its mid-century style while continuing to showcase its beautiful mountain views. This resort is not like any other resorts in Arizona, so modern! It’s absolutely stunning.
As we pulled up in a beautiful white BMW convertible, we felt at ease knowing we were leaving our busy work weeks behind and ready to embrace the next couple days with some serious R&R. We were also celebrating our 6 year wedding anniversary that Sunday. We were accommodated in the Immerse guestroom, featuring a separate area with a luxurious bathtub that looks out to Camelback mountain. This alone is a double thumbs up in my book. We were immediately greeted with some chocolate covered strawberries and and a note wishing us a happy anniversary. So sweet!

That evening, we had an early drink in the lounge before heading back to the room to put Vivienne to sleep. One of the hardest things about going on vacation with a baby is keeping her on schedule with naps and bedtime. Of course we would have rather stayed downstairs a little bit longer, but Vivienne always comes first. Once we got her to bed, we ordered room service and rented a movie for the night. If you are wondering how we stayed in the same room as her if she goes to sleep by 7pm? The room had a curtain option separating the bathroom/vanity area from the bedroom. That and the pure bliss of her sound machine, she luckily stayed sound asleep. That curtain was huge for us!

The next morning, I had breakfast and explored the resort with Vivienne while JJ played a round of golf at the short course. He loved the course and said the views were definitely worth the early morning tee time. We met back up and had lunch at the Citizens Club (aka the pool) in a private cabana enjoying guac and multiple mimosas. A perfect way to spend ur Saturday!

Later that evening, we got dressed up and enjoyed a lovely dinner at Hearth 61. We had absolutely amazing service. Thank you, Stacy! The fact that she recommended a wine that is now added to our personal favorites list, well…need I say more? Oysters, ahi tartare, short rib agnolotti, George’s bank scallops. It was all so good! We had our desserts and the rest of our wine to go and headed back up to the room to get Vivienne to sleep. A couple shows later, we were both passed out by 9pm. A wild Saturday for these parents! Oh, how life has changed.

On Sunday morning, JJ, Vivienne and I enjoyed Eggs Benedict and Green Chili Pork for brunch at Heart 61 before checking out and heading back home. Overall, I really loved our time at the resort and would definitely come back for another stay. Since the resort just opened, it still had some areas that are being worked on (exercise studio, citizen club, condos were not yet up and running). I was a little bummed to hear that there was no spa either, but nonetheless, this was an amazing weekend stay celebrating our anniversary. We will definitely be back!
