Our transition to ONE nap

March 26, 2018

When we returned to Phoenix from San Diego, Vivienne finally made the transition to one nap.

Before then, she was napping 10am-12pm and 3-4pm. The last nap was always up in the air, so we ended up doing 10-1pm most days. Snack before and lunch right after.
Bedtime would come and she would be more than ready to sleep. So we had to do something about this schedule.

I wrote to Cara of Taking Cara Babies to ask for her guidance to get Vivienne to nap later. I truthfully didn’t think it would be possible as 10am was sometimes a stretch as it was. She was waking up often at 5am (maybe due to the time change California) and was more than ready for her early morning naps. Cara suggested to push it back each day in 15 minute intervals. I started with 10:15, 10:30, adding some early lunches to get her used to eating before and then all of a sudden once we returned from California, she was ready for a 12pm schedule. Inching them more and more and not giving up is the best advice I can give.

More recently, I’ve been concerned with these really early mornings we have been having. So, again… to Cara I write. She suggested we push Vivienne’s bedtime to 730-8pm instead of 7pm. This should get her to naturally sleep later. Why didn’t I think of that? So, the latest … we’ve had her to bed later and she did 5:45am the first morning and 6:30am the next. Yesss! 4:45-5am is just TOO early!

So, now we are enjoying a week in Hawaii, and trying to figure out how to do this sleep schedule. Luckily, she’s been pretty good with bouncing back after vacations. Wish us luck! Aloha!
