15 Month Update

January 25, 2018

On the 21st of this month, Vivienne turned 15 months. I can’t believe how fast the time is flying by. People always said it would, but I didn’t want to believe it could be this fast. She is starting to really look like a toddler these days and its amazing and sad all at the same time.

A little update on my sweet girl.

Weight: 21.2

Height: 31

Vivienne is starting to feel confident in standing more often and taking steps toward mama, but she hasn’t quite mastered the walk… at all. All in due time. I think this stage has been the longest to accomplish, but I am not really trying to rush her; just working with her every day and trying to teach. I already know that once she starts to officially walk, she will be all over the place. She also now eats her meals using a utensil the majority of the time. I explain a little bit more about eating with utensils below. She loves to dip her chicken in ketchup, and really just loves ketchup. She has recently had issues with constipation, that I thought was due to whole milk, but our pediatrician assures us that it could be needing more fiber in her diet or probiotics in her life. I’ve tried to give her some greens but she’s been denying them lately. Carb and fruit girl. A recent trick was trying this Supergreen pasta that she ate right up and even have offered her pouches. Yup, pouches to get those greens in. You win some, you lose some. Vivienne has 7 teeth currently with some major molars coming in. Poor girl! Vivienne has also been babbling like crazy lately and repeats so much of what we say. She says mum, dada, hot, cracker, and loves to sing along to her Little Baby Bum songs. She has definitely turned into a major mamas girl and has been even more clingy to me lately then ever before. I am not quite sure how to handle it some days, as sometimes it feels like there are no breaks but then again, I love it.

I can’t wait to see whats in store for us these next couple of months. Busy busy!!

Below, I am answering some questions:

Are you planning to put your daughter in daycare? We have no plans for daycare. We are making it work and JJ is helping out often during the day since he works from home.

Which hair bands do you prefer for Vivienne? I get the small plastic ones from Target by the brand, Goody.

How did you teach her to use utensils? Using utensils was something I started from the beginning (at 6 months). We began with using the gootensils, took a break from time to time when she was really mastering eating with her hands, but I always made sure to keep introducing/suggesting it. I also believe using utensils goes hand in hand with the want to feed herself. I can’t speak more highly of BLW, and although its so scary to start, its been amazing for us. So my tip for you would be to never stop offering it and even give a loaded spoon/fork for him/her to pick up on their own and feed themselves. Vivienne has just started to stab/scoop her food and feed herself. Its truly a process and you got this!

What is her current bottle schedule? 7am, 10am, 3pm, 7pm.

Are you breastfeeding? No, I stopped breastfeeding at 1 year.

How did you transition her from breastfeeding? I knew I wanted to stop breastfeeding around a year, but my supply was started to go down naturally around 11 months. I supplemented with whole milk (OK from pediatrician) and pumped as much as I could for feedings during the day. I took off a pump session once at a time or stretched out longer to pump to start getting the supply to lower even more. Toward the year mark, I truthfully didn’t really know what I was doing and just kind of stopped cold turkey. Both of my boobs got engorged/had clogged ducts, which was awful. I relieved the pain and excess milk via a hot shower or even in the sink at work with my hand (think milking a cow)… you have to do what you have to do. Then one day, the clogged ducts stopped and I no longer had to milk myself in the sink. I was officially done. I know so many people asked me how I transitioned from breastfeeding, but its not any special way… I just kind of winged it.

What is her current daily schedule? Wake up around 6-6:30am, breakfast, bottle, playtime, walk, little TV time, 10am-1pm: nap time (trying to move this further back- struggling right now) lunch, playtime, 3pm bottle, more playtime, snack, evening walk, dinner, bottle, bed time by 7pm. Truthfully, it changes day by day but that is the typical routine if we are home all day. We do like to get her out and about and once we are back in Phoenix, I plan to get her back in swim or do classes during the week. She’s so ready for that.

Do you plan on having more kids? We do but just one more.

When did you introduce her to foods? At 6 months. See BLW post

Do you still use a sound machine for sleeping? She does and truthfully, not sure how she will sleep without it now. The moment we turn it off when nap time is over, she is up! It’s truly amazing.

Whats wrong with her belly button? She has a hernia on her belly button that is completely normal for infants/toddlers. It is not growing or causing her any pain, and should go away by 2 years. If it does not then she will have to have a surgery to remove it.

When will you start potty training? I won’t lie. I haven’t really thought hard about this. I know some toddlers could start at 18 months, where others aren’t interested until 2.5-3 years. Knowing myself, I’ll probably see if the interest is there early on and work from there. Stay tuned.

Does she sleep through the night? She does. She sleeps from 7pm to 6-6:30am typically. There have been a couple of nights where she has been waking up due to these terrible molars coming in. I comfort her, rock her, give her Camilla, and even 2-3 oz of whole milk to get her to settle back down.

Anything she doesn’t like to eat? Of course, but I feel she goes through phases. She used to be totally fine with eating her greens and now she is refusing them. I think I just need to be a little more creative in my cooking. She is starting to eat meat and eggs more often, as she used to refuse that as well. I can’t really say she doesn’t like to eat something at this point, I just consider it a phase and continue to introduce it.

I hope you all enjoyed this update on Vivienne! Would love to see if your little one is doing anything similar! Please share 🙂
