Our Europe Trip: Nice

November 11, 2015

The end of the trip is here and we have officially fallen in love with Europe. If you are visiting this page for the first time, head back to my previous posts to hear about London, Amsterdam, and Paris. At this point, we took a train from Paris to Nice; feeling so excited for a week of relaxation and the mere fact that we still had 5 days of vacation left. We felt so grateful for how slow the trip was going in time. We were looking forward to the beach, the warm weather, and our amazing AirBnb. Although it was the most expensive out of all our other accommodations, it was worth every penny! We wanted a place where we could feel the most comfortable relaxing, with an amazing view of the Mediterranean. The bed alone was the most comfortable bed I had ever slept in. In fact, this blog post is a great reminder for me to email the host to find out where I can find that bedding. There were days I didn’t even want to get out of bed!

Since this portion of our trip was all about relaxing, we didn’t want to plan too much during our stay. Cannes, Monaco and Eze Village were all on our list of places to see; but we only ended up venturing to Eze for a few hours one afternoon. The stunning medieval village is located on the outskirts of Nice,  placed right on top of a rocky hill looking out to the Mediterranean sea. We were told to have a drink at Chateau Eze (400 years old), which was our first stop and also located at the top of the village. If you want a seriously romantic lunch or dinner and are not afraid to spend some big bucks, then I would definitely recommend eating there. We personally didn’t eat there but the view in itself was unreal. Or you could be like us and have a drink on their beautiful patio. After our cocktail, we made our way back down the village and stopped in a couple of cute shops, one of which had crafts and handmade toys for children. Absolutely adorable! It reminded me of something found in the movie, Pinocchio. I came across this small blue, pink, and white carousel that I had to have. Something that will one day go and belong to a little Garcia. 🙂

On Thursday, we walked around in search of a good tattoo shop. We had been wanting tattoos for a while now and agreed to get one in or after this trip. We had been pushing back and planning this trip for years now, so to us.. to be here was a really big deal. We wanted to symbolize it but keep the meaning about us. Which is why we both got, “you and me” in French. To us it means, above all… our past, present, and future… it will always be just “you and me.” I got mine on the inside of my left arm and JJ got his on the inside of his right bicep. Different fonts, same words. We love them. I actually almost didn’t get mine due to the language barrier and the tattoo artist trying to convince me to go bigger. Hell no I will not go bigger! After a couple moments of breaking sweats and having a minor freak out, I stood strong and got what I wanted. I love it!

We weren’t too impressed with the food in Nice. We were given recommendations of a few places but nothing really blew us away. We also grew tired of only having a coffee and croissant in the morning. You know this girl needs her daily eggs! We found an English pub that we had breakfast at every morning, Wayne’s Bar. They served traditional English breakfast, had English speaking waiters, and free Wi-Fi! Can’t beat that. The last night was probably one of our favorite evenings of our trip. We spent the afternoon at the local market, picking out fresh produce and fish fillets that we would cook ourselves at home. Not only did the meal taste amazing but we had so much fun just hanging out together in the kitchen; drinking wine, listening to music, and creating the last meal in Europe. We completely took advantage of our patio overlooking the sea and had a great last meal together!

By the end of our trip, we were ready to head back to Arizona to be home with our puppies. My mom was amazing enough to fly out and stay with them during the 15 days we were gone. How awesome is that? Thanks mom! This was the best trip we have ever had and even better than we thought it would be! So blessed for this life experience with my other half!
