Second Trimester Bliss

June 29, 2016

If everyday pregnant was as amazing as how I feel during the second trimester, I would consider getting pregnant again for the second time sooner than later. Quite the statement, huh? Maybe ask me again when we’re getting closer to the due date.

As you may already know, during the first trimester I felt exhausted, hangry, and had the worst skin ever; although it sounds like a complaint…I know it could have been a lot worse. Food aversions and my skin issues started to subside once week 14 came around, and I was feeling less STARVING and more like myself. I even started eating vegetables again. Read more about the first trimester in my previous posts here and here.

I’ve given many updates via blog and social media along the way about this pregnancy and I plan to continue to do so until I pop. Literally. I do hope these posts have been helpful and/or interesting to those of you reading. If you have any questions or want me to talk about anything specific, please let me know! I’m an open book.

The last 10 weeks has felt like heaven, and I’m not just saying that to sound like everything is rainbows and butterflies over here… but it kind of is. I read in books and was told by others that the second trimester is the best time ever in your pregnancy. They couldn’t have been more accurate. I feel amazing. Basically, I feel like myself again, minus the growing bump of course. Did I mention that I am kind of obsessed with this bump? It’s our baby! I couldn’t be more proud to show her off. For years, I had been so conscious of living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle so it’s kind of nice to not have to worry about how you look after a cheat/large meal. The bump is here to stay (for now)! Anyone else love taking advantage of their growing bumps? Not bloated, just pregnant.

The second trimester is also the time where you really start to feel your baby move. Without an ultrasound or hearing the baby’s heartbeat, you never know exactly what is going on in there. At exactly 23 weeks, JJ finally felt her kick for the first time. We are loving the constant movement and kicks!

Below are some questions answered that I’ve received through social media. Feel free to keep em’ coming!

How’s the nursery coming? Since my initial post, we received her dresser, and just got her closet done last week by Classy Closet’s. Will reveal the final product soon. Still getting things in and deciding on artwork and accessories.

What prenatal vitamins are you taking? Garden of Life, Prenatal Once Daily. Start taking prenatal vitamins at least three months before you start trying for a baby.

Does it bother you to gain weight? Not one bit. Getting reassurance from my doctor last week that I’ve been on point with my weight gain was definitely a confidence boost, but I’m fine about it.

How are you maintaining your figure? Before pregnancy, anytime I would gain weight it would go directly to my stomach. So… I’m guessing that’s still where all the weight is going 🙂 No, but honestly…working out and eating healthy when I can has made me stay in shape. Read more about how I maintain a healthy lifestyle in my previous blog posts here and here.

What do you use to prevent stretch marks? I honestly don’t know if oils and creams work to prevent stretch marks from happening. People say its genetic, so whether you lather that stuff on you… you’re bound to get it if your mama did. When I first learned I was pregnant, I purchased the Mama Mio starter kit. I also use Palmer’s Cocoa stretch mark cream (can purchase from target or CVS). So far so good. Fingers crossed.

Do/did you feel cramps while working out? There were good days and bad days while working out. Sometimes I felt cramps, sometimes I felt great and sometimes I just felt off. Once I stopped feeling normal, I walked myself right out of the gym. One more mile or weight lift is not worth something bad happening to my baby. I hope that was helpful.

What are you naming your baby girl? Our daughter DOES have a name but we are not currently sharing it on social media. It’s not a secret or anything from friends and family but planning to wait a little longer to reveal to everyone. Want a hint? Classic meets tomboy.
