I walked into AZ Small Dog Rescue this past weekend no different than any other Saturday; to pick up a dog for the Dog of the Week shoot. Pacing by the glass and sweet puppy faces as fast as I can, it is so difficult for me to stay there long and make a decision. All these dogs/cats need a loving home. How do you pick? Sometimes, I don’t. I make the staff just give me one that needs the exposure. As I got to the end of the glass, I noticed a little white face starring up at me. I instantly asked to take her. Her name is Lyrik and she reminded me so much of my girl, Lucy.

Lyrik is a 2 year old tiny shih Tzu mix. She was rescued from county by AZSDR and has been in the shelter for about a week. If you haven’t noticed in these photos, Lyrik is rocking a very bad haircut right now. She was found completely matted, so her entire body had to be shaved down. I can’t wait to see how beautiful she turns out when her hair grows back. The very little fur she does have, is the softest fur I have ever felt. She is definitely going to be a cutie! A complete sweetie and cuddle bug, Lyrik is great with all dogs, cats, and children. Her adoption fee is $200 which includes being vet checked, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccines.

After our shoot, I decided to bring Lyrik home to play with King and Lucy. How well behaved, adorable, and cool this dog was… we decided to ask for an overnight to see how they would all get along. By Sunday, we decided Lyrik was now Olive, and apart of our family. I was so excited, yet nervous that this was a little too spontaneous of a decision with all our traveling coming up. Like Lucy, I can tell Olive needs a lot of one on one time and extra love; and it is really hard for me to take any of that time away from either of them. Anxious and upset, the shelter let us have her overnight for a couple more nights. Monday afternoon, I received a text from my friend Lindsay who said if we were unsure in keeping her, that she knew someone who was. I was beyond excited that Olive wouldn’t be going back to the shelter, but in a loving family that I was able to personally meet.  Lyrik/Olive is going to her forever home tonight, and I couldn’t be more excited for her. JJ is also no longer allowing me to bring dogs home (insert yikes emoji face).
